Fanning Island, Republic of Kiribati
In November I went on a cruise around Hawaii that took us about 1,000 miles from the Big Island down to Fanning Island.
Fanning Island is one of the most amazing and beautiful places I have ever seen in my life. It's an oval shaped coral atoll with a huge lagoon in the center of crystal blue water. Only about 2,000 people live on the island. Their only source of income is tourism and those are the only people that they see aside from a ship that brings goods from Australia twice a year. The islanders make beautiful jewelry, knives, hats and other trinkets to sell to visitors.
I took a stroll away from the tender landing sight and saw their quaint houses, kids climbing trees and luscious greens. The island was so brightly colored that it seemed like new color names had to be invented to describe its beauty.
These are some of my favorite photos from Fanning Island:
These singers greeted us as the tender embarked.
This boy reminded me of my brother who is always climbing trees.
Cute little piggy! I hope he's a pet and not soon to be dinner.
I think this is a garden?
Best nap ever!
Super cool fencing
