Oasis/Jet, Madison Square Garden, 6/22/05

I went to go see the Oasis/Jet show at MSG last night with my friend Tom after getting ditched by my *date*. We have a trend of getting ridiculously drunk together and this night was no exception! I just bought the new Oasis cd and was not too impressed so I didn’t know what to expect of the guys. I saw Oasis once before in HS and they put on a good show, I’ve also seen Jet 3 times in the last year so I knew they were going to be good but I wasn’t looking forward to seeing them in an arena setting.
So I meet Tom at The Blarney Stone (where the bartenders have Irish accents!) and had a few drinks before heading over to MSG. Our seats were pretty good in the 100s section so that was a plus. We didn’t end up waiting too long before Jet came out starting the set with “Cold Hard Bitch.” Their set-up was cool with 3 huge posters of an angelic woman that changed colors with the lights. They played one song that I didn’t know and most of the *hits* from their album. As I expected, after being spoiled and seeing Jet in small venues it wasn’t the same to be a lone stander in a sea of chairs. And of course there were the lighters… The arena was still only about half full by the time they left the stage.
Oasis hit the stage after a pretty quick stage change. I’m pretty sure they opened with “Love One Another” or whatever that song is from the new album. (It’s so John Lennon so I understand but I just want to say, hello? you guys don’t even get along with each other!) Anyway, the new albums ROCKS when they played in live! Oasis definitely still has it and put on an amazing show! They played mostly songs from the new album and a few older songs like “What’s the Story Morning Glory.” Their backdrop on the stage was scattered Christmas light-type things that looked really cool. And the people next to us (we went up closer than our normal seats) let us squeeze in to the one empty seat next to them (I was half in the aisle) and toasted beers with us throughout the night. Cheers!
Tom lost his hoodie but it was all good.
